Irish man arrested for murder of American nurse in Budapest
Hungarian police have arrested a 37-year-old Irish man in connection with the murder of Mackenzie Michalski, a 31-year-old nurse from Portland, Oregon, who went missing after a night out in Budapest.
Michalski was last seen on Tuesday, and police say the suspect was identified through CCTV footage. He later confessed to killing her, claiming the death was accidental.
Authorities revealed that the pair met at a nightclub, danced together, and went to the man’s rented apartment. During an “intimate encounter,” Michalski was allegedly killed. The suspect reportedly attempted to hide her death by placing her body in a suitcase and disposing of it in woodland near the village of Szigliget, western Hungary.
Police disclosed chilling details of the suspect’s actions. After the incident, he cleaned his apartment, storing Michalski’s body in a wardrobe before transporting it in a rented car.
The man’s internet history showed searches for terms like “what does a dead body smell like after it decomposes?” and “removing rotting meat smell.” He also searched about pigs eating corpses and wild boar activity near Lake Balaton, close to the disposal site.
The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
