A thrill-seeking 90-year-old who believes life begins at 60 has completed not one, but two skydives in the past 13 years.

Mercy Baggs, who is based in Wiltshire, went for her very first parachute jump at the age of 77 – before completely one more recently, at the age of 89.

She’s now on a mission to encourage other over 55s to tick things off their bucket lists.

‘I don’t know why people just give up at a certain age,’ Mercy explains.

‘Life begins at 60 I believe and age is just a number.

‘Never let anyone make you feel like you cannot do something because of your age – because I don’t.’

Despite undergoing surgery to remove two tumours on her spine in 2007, Mercy was determined to continue to live her life to the fullest.

The former police officer went on to complete the skydives just years later.

She says: ‘At first when the door opens, it is very cold – the wind was blowing us from side to side – but gradually you start to enjoy it.

‘You’re literally skydiving and suddenly the parachute opens and you see everything below you and it’s an exhilarating experience like no other.’

Mercy is also not finished yet – and plans to embark on a third skydive on her 95th birthday.

The 90-year-old has teamed up with Dame Arlene Phillips and Wiltshire Farm Foods on this new campaign to invite over 55s to live out their life-long dreams.

Anyone who is interested in nominating themselves, or someone else over the age of 55, for the fund can find more details at wiltshirefarmfoods.com.
