Dramatic pictures showed the moment a bus erupted into flames in Stockport on Sunday evening (March 9) and forced the interchange to close.
The double-decker bus was seen well alight in videos shared with the Manchester Evening News, after the fire seemed to break out near the top floor.
Huge plumes of black smoke could be seen billowing over the station, with a heavy emergency services response called to the scene at around 6.30pm.
The interchange was later closed with passengers urged to catch services from the next stop in the journey. Three fire engines raced to the incident and spent around 40 minutes dampening the flames.
A post shared by the BeeNetwork read: “Due to a vehicle fire, Stockport Interchange is closed until further notice. Please board or alight at the bus stop before or after Stockport Interchange. We apologise for any inconvenience caused to your journey.”
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just after 6.30pm this evening (Sunday 9th March), three fire engines from Whitehill, Offerton and Stockport Central fire station were call about reports of a vehicle fire involving a double decker bus at Stockport Interchange.
“Crews arrived quickly at the scene. Firefighter wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels to extinguish the fire. Firefighters were in attendance for around forty minutes.”
