With Artificial Intelligence finding more and more applications in everyday life, it was only a matter of time before it arrived on our phones.
Many people have been using AI chatbots to help with their personal finances, plan lessons, create novels, and even make dating apps.
Now, tech company Open AI has released its famous AI chatbot ChatGPT in the form of an app – so you can ask the bot to plan your latest trip or write a song or two while you’re on the go.
It comes after scammers issued several fake ChatGPT apps to con users out of money.
So how can you download the ChatGPT app and how much does it cost?
Here is what you need to know.
How to download the ChatGPT app
ChatGPT’s app for iOS is now available in the UK and 10 more countries after previously only being available in the US.

And it is quick and easy to download the programme from the App Store.
Once you’ve loaded the store, you need to search ‘OpenAI ChatGPT App’ to select the programme, making sure that it is developed by the Open AI team and not a scammer.
Then you hit the download button and that’s it – ChatGPT is on your phone.
It won’t be long until more countries can enjoy the app, with a tweet from OpenAI teasing more regions will see the release of ChatGPT on mobile ‘soon.’
OpenAI said that Android is ‘next’ when it launched the iOS app, though the company has given no further updates.
Is the ChatGPT app free?
At the moment, the ChatGPT app available in the UK is free to download.
What can you use the ChatGPT app for?
Much like the browser version of ChatGPT, the artificial intelligence chatbot has various uses based on the questions, prompts and information the user provides.

Open AI state on its website that the new App will allow users to receive the following:
Instant answers – Get precise information without sifting through ads or multiple results.
Tailored advice – Seek guidance on cooking, travel plans, or crafting thoughtful messages.
Creative inspiration – Generate gift ideas, outline presentations, or write the perfect poem.
Professional input – Boost productivity with idea feedback, note summarization, and technical topic assistance.
Learning opportunities – Explore new languages, modern history, and more at your own pace.
As always with developmental AI, no model is perfect, and some chatbots have been known to ‘hallucinate’ and present incorrect information as factual.
This is why the ChatGPT app is being rolled out slowly, with Open AI saying, ‘As we gather user feedback, we’re committed to continuous feature and safety improvements for ChatGPT.

‘With the ChatGPT app for iOS, we’re taking another step towards our mission by transforming state-of-the-art research into useful tools that empower people while continuously making them more accessible.
Trying to get into the spirit of things, we asked the browser version of ChatGPT what the App might be used for. Here is what it said:
ChatGPT in its own words
Metro.co.uk: Hi ChatGPT, when the official ChatGPT app for iOS is released, what will you be able to use it for?
ChatGPT: As an AI language model, my capabilities depend on the specific implementation and features of the ChatGPT app for iOS.
While I don’t have information on any future release beyond my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, I can speculate on some potential use cases for an official ChatGPT app for iOS. Please note that these are speculative and may not align with the actual features of the app:
Natural language conversation: You can engage in natural language conversations with the ChatGPT app. It can understand and respond to a wide range of queries and provide information, explanations, or suggestions.
Knowledge and information retrieval: The app could tap into its vast knowledge base to provide answers to factual questions, offer explanations, and retrieve relevant information from various sources on the internet.
Language translation: You might be able to use the app to translate text or even have real-time language translation for conversations.
Personal assistant: The app could function as a virtual personal assistant, helping you with tasks such as setting reminders, scheduling events, sending messages, and providing recommendations.
Learning and education: The app could provide educational content, answer questions related to various subjects, and assist in learning and studying.
Entertainment and storytelling: You might be able to engage the app in interactive storytelling, where it generates narratives based on your inputs or preferences.
Productivity and organization: The app could help with productivity and organization by managing to-do lists, offering productivity tips, providing suggestions for time management, and more.
Creative writing assistance: If you’re a writer or creative individual, the app could offer suggestions, help brainstorm ideas, or provide feedback on your writing.
These are just a few possibilities, and the actual features of the ChatGPT app for iOS may vary depending on the development decisions made by OpenAI or any other organization involved in its creation.
