    How to Home School your children during the lockdown period

    An introduction to How to Home School By WTX News and Mr Shahid Hussain.

    With the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the government has ordered the closure of schools from Monday. Parents across the country now face educating their children at home for months. Without preparation, it might seem like a daunting task, but here’s a guide on how to Home School 2020.

    Now that the schools are closed we have put together a guide for parents and students to get through this time as productively as possible. It’s not perfect and certainly not one-size that fits all. But we will create regular content for you to use, using online resources and give you tips form educators and teachers on the how-to home School your children.

    The thought of being stuck home with kids fill you with terror, or even just leave you wondering how you’re going to fill all that time? Well here’s a guide to help you and of course, we will always be available if you need any help or tips.

    How to Home School

    During the uncertain times of the coronavirus pandemic that is sweeping across the globe, Parents have the most difficult of jobs, not only are you needed to be a parent but you will be the facilitators of the education provisions at home.

    Our special educational correspondents led by Mr Hussain has been sharing some insights so you can you make the most out of the time you have with your children. “I know my friends and family have been reaching out to me for help with planning activities and lessons at home. ” So in order to facilitate these requests, he has put together a guide to help all parents to facilitate their children education.

    We have collated online resources that you as parents can use in addition to the school provisions. If you have found useful additional resources, feel free to get in touch and I’ll update the list.

    Mr Hussian is a teacher and has been teaching for 15 years both locally in the Northwest, nationally in London and internationally in the UAE. Heading departs and creating vital resources for children and teachers alike. An innovator in the educational department and will be with us throughout the quarantine period.

    Tips to Home Schooling

    • Create a subject timetable for your children in partnership with them.
    • Be creative with the timetable – add singing, gardening, exercise, cooking, Lego building.
    • Involve your child to come up with homeschooling rules.
    • Set appropriate rewards and sanctions so the rules are enforceable.
    • Be patient, and ensure vocabulary with them is positive.
    • Empower them to take charge of their learning.
    • Schedule play and break times, give them and yourself a much-needed break.
    • Stay on top of what they are doing.
    • Assess their learning at the end of the lesson, What Went Well (WWW), Even Better If (EBI)
    • Create a reflective diary so your child can see the progress they have achieved,
    • Most importantly – make it fun!

    Primary, Secondary and Post-16 with a full selection of subjects.  Lessons usually consist of interactive content and a summative quiz. A good useful and interactive resource, for children to work with on a daily basis.

    The scouts have released some inspired indoor activity ideas to keep your kids learning new skills and having fun at the same time.  These include: building a miniature raft, A storm in a cup and using a camera.

    Online worksheets to download from EYES to KS4, home learning and school closure packs are available.

    STEM

    Free STEM resources for home learning.  Stem subject experts have put together a selection of resources – all of which are completely free for everyone to access. The subject experts are also available from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm on weekdays via the websites webchat.

    Khan Academy

    A non-profit with the mission to provide free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere.  Daily schedules for students ages 4-18 to keep them learning.

    Openlearn

    Over 1000 free learning resources from the Open University. A good educational tool for Key Stage 4 students, especially Year 11 students.
