Home Office cancels Border Force contract with P&O Ferries after mass sackings
The Guardian says Ministers have cancelled a contract with P&O Ferries after it sacked nearly 800 seafarers without notice in March.
The Home Office announced that the agreement with the Border Force agency would come to an end with “immediate effect”.
It follows the Department for Transport winding up a deal with P&O Ferries after a review in light of the mass sackings.
A Home Office spokesperson said: “In response to P&O Ferries’ unacceptable behaviour, Border Force has terminated its agreement with P&O to provide contingency travel services to juxtaposed ports with immediate effect.”
Grant Shapps, the transport secretary, tweeted: “We’ve terminated UK Border Force’s one-of-a-kind agreement with the company.
