Tom Cruise had a special message for King Charles during the Coronation Concert.

The Top Gun star was one of many celebrities putting in an appearance at the event, following the coronation of Charles and Queen Camilla on Saturday at Westminster Abbey.

Katy Perry was one of the big headliners of the night, taking to the stage to belt out Roar and Firework, even getting Prince George and Princess Charlotte on their feet.

Lionel Richie also brought the house down as the Royal Family sang along to his tunes – including Charles and Queen Camilla – and danced to his eighties hit All Night Long during the musical extravaganza at Windsor Castle.

The Prince of Wales gave the most passionate tribute of the night, telling his father before 20,000 spectators gathered in the grounds: ‘Pa, we are all so proud of you.’

Hosted by Downton Abbey actor Hugh Bonneville, the Coronation Concert saw the King’s life celebrated, from his role in the Armed Forces to his passion for the arts and his charitable work through the Prince’s Trust.

A host of celebrities recorded messages for Charles or highlighted little-known facts about him.

And Hollywood royalty met actual royalty when Tom delivered his tribute while at the controls of his Top Gun Warbird plane.

Highlighting the fact that Charles was qualified as a helicopter pilot, he said: ‘Pilot to pilot. Your Majesty, you can be my wingman any time,’ before saluting and banking off.

‘Wow, from one king to another’, one wrote.

‘Tom Cruise once again proving he is an absolute class act’, another Twitter user praised.

Elsewhere, when William took to the stage, he delighted his daughter Charlotte, who could be seen pointing out her father to her older brother.

From the stage on the castle’s picturesque east terrace, the Prince of Wales made a poignant reference to his late grandmother Queen Elizabeth II, adding: ‘I know she’s up there, fondly keeping an eye on us.’

They set the place alight with hits including Shine and Never Forget, with the latter getting the crowd well and truly going as they screamed the lyrics and clapped in unison.

The Coronation Concert is available to watch on BBC iPlayer and listen back to on BBC Sounds.
