Social media users have been tickled following a performance of You’ll Never Walk Alone at King Charles III’s Coronation Concert, with many convinced it was a cheeky swipe at Liverpool fans.

Thousands of people gathered for the star-studded show at Windsor Castle, which saw the sovereign crack up at Miss Piggy flirting with Hugh Bonneville and singer Katy Perry resemble a Quality Street.

But it was Andrea Bocelli and Sir Bryn Terfel’s timely performance of You’ll Never Walk Alone that had viewers at home entertained.

The song, made famous by Merseybeat group Gerry and the Pacemakers, is the official Liverpool FC anthem, and just yesterday, the day of the coronation no less, the club’s fans booed the national anthem before their team played Brentford in the Premier League.

Quickly after God Save The King started to play in the stadium, many supporters at Anfield were heard voicing their disapproval.

Unsurprisingly then, many were in stitches when You’ll Never Walk Alone was performed at the Coronation Concert and several were convinced that the song was selected as a wind up.

‘I won’t lie. It is hilarious Andrea Bocelli singing you’ll never walk alone at the king’s concert the day after we booed the anthem,’ one chuckled on Twitter.

Another pointed out: ‘The coronation concert is now performing You’ll Never Walk Alone just to troll the Liverpool fans.’

‘Oh the bloody irony of You’ll Never Walk Alone,’ added a third.

Could the royals really be trolling Liverpool fans? It seems unlikely, but we’re amused.
