Hollyoaks stars Anna Passey and Kieron Richardson on Ste and Sienna Halloween: ‘We’ve never laughed so much at a script’

Hollyoaks clearly made the right decision when they paired Ste and Sienna together, with Kieron Richardson and Anna Passey bringing home the Inside Soap award for Best Double Act earlier this week.

They praised the soap for the ‘silliness’ of their current storyline, with Kieron explaining to Metro.co.uk: ‘We were so used to doing serious stories and issue ones and you’ve got to get it absolutely spot on because people go through this in real life.’

He went on to compare those hard-hitting stories to what they’re getting up to now.

‘We were like, burying bodies in Marigolds and the silliness of it, we just embraced it and went for it.

‘We wanted to give our characters a bit of a new lease of life, really, because we don’t want the audience to get bored with them.

‘I feel this [award] is just proof that it kind of works so whoever came up with the idea we thank them implicitly.’

As for what’s still to come, Anna teased that Halloween is ‘one to watch’ for the pair.

‘For me, it’s the most I’ve ever laughed at an episode I’ve read.’ She told us.

‘There’s a really brilliant guesting part that comes in the atmosphere of Ste and Sienna, a really brilliant other character that kind of throws a slight spanner in the works.’

Kieron was quick to agree, saying: ‘When we read the scripts it’s the first time I genuinely laughed out loud, it was so amazing to read. So then when we did it, and to keep a straight face – and now we’ve got this comedy thing going on, we really went for it. It’s so silly.

‘And innuendos… The writer for that episode was amazing. Innuendos are really ramped up. The mums and dads that watch it with the kids are going to be like, it’s really funny.’
