Hollyoaks star Niamh Blackshaw has promised viewers a range of emotions in regards to what one can expect from upcoming scenes involving Juliet Nightingale.

Juliet, as viewers know, has been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and was told earlier this year that she needs a stem cell transplant, with subsequent scenes seeing her head off to Birmingham for the procedure.

The popular character returned home earlier this week, with the latest outing of the show, which aired on Thursday (April 20), confirming that she didn’t actually get the transplant.

What exactly the future holds for Juliet from here on out remains to be seen, but actress Niamh Blackshaw teased what viewers can expect, telling Metro.co.uk that her character is a ‘fighter’.

‘I can’t say too much, but Juliet is a fighter,’ she told us. ‘Expect a lot more Nightingale rows, tears, laughter and a lot of love.’

Niamh, who is up for a British Soap Award, said that she feels ‘grateful’ to be nominated in such a ‘competitive’ category.

‘There have been so much brilliant work and I feel very privileged to be acknowledged in this way,’ she exclaimed, before telling us that she hasn’t picked an outfit for the awards do just yet.

‘But it should be a lovely night celebrating so much hard work’, said the soap star. ‘In a continuing drama, it’s so important to take a step back and be proud of the work you’ve done before diving straight back in – and I mean that for everyone across every department.’

    We couldn’t agree more!

Hollyoaks, meanwhile, has more than earned its nomination for Best Soap after having a spectacular year, with storylines such as Juliet’s cancer, the long walk home episode and Eric Foster’s radical misogyny receiving critical acclaim, and Niamh told us why she feels viewers should vote for the show.

‘I’m obviously going to be bias, but Hollyoaks has told some amazing stories, and everyone has worked so hard to bring them to life’ she said. ‘It would be amazing if the show as a whole got this recognition – so vote Hollyoaks!’

Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 7pm on E4 or stream episodes first daily on All4.
