Maxine Minniver (Nikki Sanderson) broke down in tears in Hollyoaks as she revealed that she’s been left ‘scarred for life’ after Eric Foster’s (Angus Castle-Doughty) attack.

The legacy secretary, as viewers know, paid a visit to see incel Eric, who is serving a lengthy sentence, in prison last week, determined to make him see the error of his ways.

Eric had been blackmailing James Nightingale (Gregory Finnegan) into convincing Maxine come visit him, hoping it would prove instrumental in garnering him a reduced sentence.

Maxine, however, had been tipped off about Eric’s motivations, as she turned the tables during a heated showdown, urging the misogynist to reveal why he believes women are the root cause of his issues in life, trying to understand his logic – or lack thereof – before effortlessly pulling a part the belief system which he holds in high regard.

Eric struggled to get his head around the fact that everything he believed and had been fed by his incel mates was a lie, as he violently lashed out, with guards forced to restrain him as he pushed Maxine into a table, leaving her in agony with a deep cut on her face.

Monday’s (May 8) first look edition of the Channel 4 soap dealt with the aftermath of the attack, with Maxine returning home from the hospital with a bandage on her face, with her colleagues believing the injury would heal up in a matter of days.

James, meanwhile, faced the wrath of Eric, who had followed through on his promise to report James to the police for stealing his mother’s necklace.

Maxine was determined to make sure the lawyer faced no charges, however, urging Zoe Anderson (Garcia Brown) to drop the case entirely, reminding her that Eric would win if she pursues this.

Zoe ultimately listened, with James thanking Maxine profusely upon his release from police custody.

Maxine, however, told him to save his apologies, as she revealed that she’s ‘scarred for life’ as a result of what Eric did to her, removing her bandage to show the lawyer her scar.

James was apologetic once more, while Maxine remained adamant that she will not let Eric win.

Hollyoaks continues Tuesday May 9 at 7pm on E4, or stream the next episode form midnight on Monday on All4.
