Harry Potter TV series boss shuts down questions over JK Rowling
Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and Max content, declined to comment on JK Rowling’s views on the trans community during a Q&A session about the new Harry Potter TV series.
The show has been officially ordered by HBO after fans had expressed their desire to boycott the series due to Rowling’s views on gender and women’s rights.
Bloys explained that their priority is what’s on the screen and that Rowling’s role as an executive producer will be helpful.
Rowling has publicly expressed her opinions on biological sex and gender identity, which has sparked controversy and backlash from fans and some of the original Harry Potter cast.
However, the streaming platform confirmed the TV series, and says it will be a faithful adaptation of the iconic books.
In a tweet shared by HBO Max confirming the TV series, the streaming platform said: ‘Your Hogwarts letter is here.
‘Max has ordered the first ever #HarryPotter scripted television series, a faithful adaptation of the iconic books. #StreamOnMax.’
