Istanbul church attack: Gunmen kill one person during Sunday morning mass
A Catholic church in Istanbul was targeted by two gunmen during morning mass, leaving one man dead.
The attack unfolded at the Church of Santa Maria during Sunday mass at approximately 11:40 local time (08:40 GMT). Turkey’s interior minister later announced on X, formerly Twitter, that “the two murder suspects have been captured,” refraining from providing additional details regarding the motive behind the assault.
The Islamic State group has since claimed responsibility for the attack.
In a post on Telegram, the extremist group asserted that two of its fighters executed the assault and successfully fled to safety.
