Graeme Souness believes ‘the normal order of things is changing’ in the Premier League and says Chelsea and Liverpool are ‘in danger’.

Both Chelsea and Liverpool currently find themselves outside of the top-four places in the English top-flight.

Graham Potter’s Blues have drawn their last two games to slip to fifth while Jurgen Klopp’s Reds are just eighth after winning only four of their 11 league matches.

Premier League leaders Arsenal are two points ahead of defending champions Manchester City, while Newcastle United climbed into the top-four after beating third-placed Tottenham on Sunday.

Souness has been impressed by Newcastle’s resurgence under Eddie Howe and says the Magpies could ‘easily’ beat Chelsea and Liverpool to a top-four spot.

‘I know how difficult that job is [Newcastle manager], how difficult it can be to get everyone on your side,’ Souness told talkSPORT. ‘But I think the manager has done a fantastic job.

‘When I saw them play against Liverpool, go to Anfield which is a hostile place, a difficult place to play, they arrived at Anfield and wanted to play Liverpool at their game and I thought they were fabulous.

‘What I saw yesterday appeared to be a team with no fear, a team that have gone to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium and said, “Come on then. Is that all you’ve got?” and they were fabulous – on the front foot, aggressive and watching the game, they looked like a fitter team than what Spurs did.

‘Newcastle right now are absolutely on fire – they are not a team any side wants to play right now.

‘Look at Miguel Almiron, he couldn’t buy a goal in the Premier League. Now he’s got, what, a goal in three straight games? He’s starting to look at home now.’

Asked which teams in the established top-six Newcastle could replace, Souness added: ‘The normal order of things is changing…

‘You have to say that Liverpool are in danger, you have to say maybe Chelsea are in danger – so there is an opening there for Newcastle.

‘The teams I’m watching right now, and you can’t guarantee it, but I fancy Newcastle in terms of performances and attitude.

‘They don’t suffer a load of injuries either and they could easily end up in the top four.’
