Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis has issued a response after it was announced that next year’s festival ticket will cost £340.
It was announced on Monday that festival enthusiasts will have to pay £335 plus a £5 booking fee for standard tickets, with £50 as a deposit and the balance due by the first week of April.
The last general sale in 2019 was priced at £265 plus a £5 booking fee for what should have been the 2020 festival. However, that year was cancelled twice due to Covid-19.
After the news was confirmed fans expressed their fury at the eye-watering prices on social media, with some threatening to boycott the annual festival due to the current cost of living crisis.
Eavis has since taken to Twitter to address the ticket controversy.
‘I wanted to post about the Glastonbury 2023 ticket price which was announced today,’ she began.
‘We have tried very hard to minimise the increase in price on the ticket but we’re facing enormous rises in the costs of running this vast show, whilst still recovering from the huge financial impact of two years without a festival because of COVID.’
She continued: ‘The £50 deposit on ticket sales day in November will be the same as ever, with the balance not due until April. And, as always, there will be opportunities for many thousands of people to come as volunteers or part of the crew.

‘In these incredibly challenging times, we want to continue to bring you the best show in the world and provide our charities with funds which are more vital than ever. We are always, hugely appreciative, of your ongoing support.’
It was previously reported that the music event will return to Worthy Farm in Somerset from June 21 to 25.
While the line-up for Glastonbury 2023 has yet to be confirmed, Eminem is reportedly in talks about headlining.
It’s also been speculated that Arctic Monkeys have also signed up to take to the Pyramid Stage.

The Spice Girls are also rumoured to be headlining, with Victoria Beckham said to be joining Melanie Brown (Mel B), Melanie Chisholm (Mel C), Emma Bunton, and Geri Halliwell at Worthy Farm.
Meanwhile, Robbie Williams who performed at one of the wettest festivals in Glastonbury history in 1998, has also thrown his hat in the ring for the legends slot, recently admitting: ‘Yeah, that’d be cool. Actually, I’d like to do that. I’d like another go round on that stage and feel that audience and get the chance to do it.’
