Ghislaine Maxwell’s bid to undermine her accusers as expert discredits recall ability
The Daily Mirror says Ghislaine Maxwell’s defence team today called an expert witness to cast doubt on accusers’ ability to remember.
On the opening day of the British socialite’s defence, lawyers called psychologist Elizabeth Loftus.
Asked by Maxwell’s lawyer Bobbi Sternheim about her research, Ms Loftus said: “People are a little more accurate when they’re confident than when they’re not confident.”
But she warned people can still be very confident about wrong answers. The psychologist added to jurors: “We are actually constructing our memories while we retrieve memories.
“One thing we know about memory is that it doesn’t work like a recording device.”
Quizzed by prosecutors, Loftus confirmed she was being paid $600 per hour by the defence lawyers.
