Name your price
If you get any messages from people saying they were not impressed by the GTA 6 trailer I will be shocked and I won’t believe them. That thing was amazing and totally sold me on the game and the idea that Rockstar is the best at graphics and open worlds.
I was a little surprised there was no pre-order options though, but I guess that fits with the idea that the game was only recently delayed until 2025. However, has there been any confirmation about the game costing $150? I’ve seen this price, or $100, repeated a lot recently but I don’t know where it comes from.
I could see Rockstar trying to charge more for GTA 6, because who wouldn’t pay whatever for it, but that much extra seems really unfair and like it would be pricing people out of buying it. Can you tell me it isn’t true?

GC: The $150 rumour comes from a single tweet that offered no source or explanation, so there’s no reason to believe it. There may well be a collector’s edition that costs that much, but there’s nothing unusual about that.
Joke release
So basically all the leaks about GTA 6 were true. It is set in Vice City, it does star a Bonnie and Clyde style couple, and it is out in 2025. That last one was a more recent rumour and as I understand the idea is that it was aiming for 2024 but was fairly recently delayed until the year after.
I know we don’t know, but that does leave hope that it will be fairly early in 2025. People have been talking about Max Payne 3 recently and that and a bunch of Rockstar games use to come out in May, so I wonder if they’re aiming for that.
Mind you, that would put it very close to the rumoured April 1st date, so who knows? Maybe that is right after all. I could see Rockstar enjoying putting it out on that day. Although it does run the risk of no one believing the date when they announce it.

Setting the pace
Some of those shots in the GTA 6 trailer are just mind-blowing. This is a quantum leap forward in video game graphics and exactly the sort of thing I’ve been wanting to see from the new consoles. Someone mentioned it being generations ahead of Starfield and that’s true but what about Sony’s games?
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Spider-Man 2 look good but they don’t look anywhere near as good as GTA 6. Shouldn’t Sony have the inside track on the PlayStation 5 to make sure their games always look better?
I’m not saying their first party games look bad or anything but I hope that GTA 6 sets a standard that other companies realise they have to meet. We can’t keep having new games that look like they could’ve easily be made on the PlayStation 4.
It’s not a question of that making the game better or anything, it’s a question of justifying the cost of the console in the first place. If games aren’t going to improve technically then why should anyone buy new hardware? GTA 6 seems to be the best argument so far as to why.

Unsung heroes
Words can’t really express how good the graphics are in that GTA 6 trailer. I realise it’s a trailer, and a lot of it is heavily staged, but I refuse to believe anyone can watch it and not be impressed. That shot of the woman on the skyscraper is just incredible, groundbreaking stuff.
Obviously, it took a lot of time and money to make things look that good but thinking about the amount of effort that must’ve gone into it all… I can’t imagine it was very much fun for the artists and programmer. The ordinary grunts doing all the unexciting stuff like making the boxes in the convenience store or the unimportant background buildings.
All important work but not something that most people will think of, so I at least will salute these unsung heroes and their efforts to make GTA 6 look like the most realistic game ever.

Ahead of the curve
Regarding Grackle’s letter about the difference in graphics between Starfield and GTA 6, and how the Bethesda game appears to be two generations behind, I would like to remind everyone that Metal Gear Solid 5: Phantom Pain launched on the Xbox 360 and it looked amazing. Miles ahead of most PlayStation 4 games.
Kinda weird how Konami made this great graphics engine and proceeded to do nothing with it.

A long time coming
It is crazy that it’s take till now for Grand Theft Auto to have a main female character. How they never ended up doing one for at least one of the spin-offs I don’t know and speaks to how much video games, especially macho like games like GTA, are still aimed primarily at young men.
Rockstar know who their audience are, I’m sure, but it makes me wonder if Dan Houser and those other writers were holding things back, because GTA 6 has only happened since they left. It seems so silly too, because Lucia seems a really cool character already and the facial animation is out of this world – easily the best I’ve ever seen.
I’m looking forward to GTA 6 having a more adult, serious storyline but I do wonder how traditional fans are going to take that, when there’s no torture scene or random murders (although there probably will be the murders at least).
Will they blame the female character for ruining the fun or will that admit that it was time for GTA to grown up and be something more than just a male power fantasy.

A long wait
I had an unexpected little adrenaline rush after watching the GTA 6 trailer. That’s not like me.
I’ve never used the word ‘giddy’ in my life, believe me, but that’s pretty close to how I felt. It looked (sweary word) awesome.
I’m not pitching a tent excited but I am pretty excited to play it after that trailer. 2025 seems like a long way off now.
That’s a lot of sleeps before release day.

Remaining questions
What can I say about GTA 6 that everyone isn’t already thinking? But that was one amazing trailer and a classic example of a long-awaited reveal actually living up to expectations. I almost don’t want to see more of it, before the game comes out, because I know they’ll have to go into more detail and kind of spoil the mystique of it all.
Just to keep thing balanced though I will say that I don’t think we really saw anything new in terms of gameplay. If the graphics weren’t better would we not be saying that this was exactly the same as GTA 5 but in a different city?
Especially as we didn’t get any real idea of how big the game world is, I think there are important questions left to answer but… nah, I can’t pretend otherwise: game looks amazing and I don’t see any scenario where I wouldn’t buy it the second it comes out. Call me shallow but graphics that pretty need to be rewarded. Can’t wait.

I see people have prematurely ahemed over GTA 6. It looks as good as Dead Island 2 did graphically. What was everyone else watching? I’ve seen better, more realistic people on certain websites. GC knows what I mean.

GC: What?
Will GC be getting advance access of the Resident Evil 4 remake PlayStation VR2 update, or is it just general access for us all at the same time?
r-s-w
GC: For technical reasons it’s generally impossible to get DLC ahead of time. Capcom sometimes do previews to compensate for this but we’re not aware of any plans this month.
This week’s Hot Topic
By Tuesday afternoon the first GTA 6 teaser should be released – an initial look at the first new Grand Theft Auto game in over a decade. So, for this weekend’s Inbox we ask the obvious question: what did you think of it?
Was the trailer what you expected, and did it meet, exceed, or undershoot your expectations? How excited are you about the game now and what are you hopes and expectations for its features, story, gameplay, and open world? Do you think it will be as big or bigger than GTA 5 and do you intend to get it day one?
Do feel free to comment on the game in the weekday Inbox as well – perhaps leave your more considered thoughts for the Hot Topic, after you’ve had a couple of days to think things over – but either way please clearly indicate whether a letter is intended for the normal Inbox or the Hot Topic.
