Free NHS prescriptions for Scots! Here’s what else they get while English shell out
The Daily Express says Government plans to scrap free prescription charges for the over 60s in England has sparked fury among campaigners. Age UK called it a “kick in the teeth for poorly older people” but it’s not an issue in Nicola Sturgeon’s Scotland. Prescriptions are free for everyone north of the border and this is not the only way the Scots benefit while the English have to pay.
The NHS prescription charge in England is £9.35 per item but they have been free for the over-60s for more than 25 years.
That could soon change as the Government is consulting on lifting the qualification age to 66 in line with the State Pension age.
