The Israeli Occupation police intend to file an indictment against the prisoners who were rearrested for planning what the occupation called a ‘sabotage’ operation and they will be sentenced to up to 15 years imprisonment.
They might also face a sentence of up to 20 years in jail if they help in the escape of others.
The Israeli Occupation Police’s decision is based on the fact that the prisoners planned to carry out the operation following their escape, according to the Hebrew website Haaretz.
The magistrates’ court in Nazareth discussed whether to extend the detention of the four prisoners – Zakariye Zubeidi, Muhammad Ardah, Yaqoub Qadri, and Mahmoud Arda – for another 13 days on Saturday evening.
“We denied the Israeli [Occupation] police’s request to extend his arrest for another 13 days, and we reject the charges against him,” Zubeidi’s lawyer added.
“It is true that he escaped from prison, but this is a natural reaction,” he continued.
“I came to defend Zakariye Zubeidi, and we reject the request and accusations of the police and the Israeli [Occupation] prosecution,” the lawyer said during a news conference.
The search for the other two escaped prisoners is still ongoing.
According to the Israeli Occupation, one of the prisoners is in the West Bank and the other is still in the 1948 territories.
Saturday morning, Hebrew media announced that two more Palestinians who escaped Gilboa prison last Monday were found and arrested.
The two Palestinians are Zakariye Zubeidi and Muhammad Ardah.
This came just hours after Yaqoub Qadri and Mahmoud Arda were detained by the Israeli occupation.
Six Palestinians escaped the Israeli Occupation Gilboa prison in the country’s north on Sept. 6.
Due to its extensive fortification and strict security protocols, Gilboa prison is regarded one of the most secure facilities under Israeli occupation.
