Four people have died following a collision between a tourist bus and a car on a road in Greece.

The double-decker bus reportedly had Serbian number plates, and was carrying around 80 passengers.

Pictures from the scene, near Kilkis in the north of the country, show the vehicle on its side in a ditch with its windows smashed or removed.

The four fatalities were all in the car, and it is believed they included three Greeks and one Russian.

An initial police statement said three people had died, but a fourth later also died from their injuries.

According to local news reports, 49 people in the bus were injured and taken to hospital in Kilkis and Thessaloniki.

Greek news site Kathimerini said they were Serbian tourists travelling to the coastal down of Asprovalta on holiday.

The site added that a second car was also affected by the crash.

Around 20 firefighters attended the incident with six rescue vehicles.

Local police announced that an investigation into the collision has been launched.

The incident comes as much of Greece continues to be affected by storms that have resulted in significant flooding.

Videos from the island of Skiathos, east of the country’s mainland, showed deep floodwater flowing quickly past hotels and homes earlier this week.
