Paul McKenna is back on the radio after over three decades off air.

The legendary BBC Radio 1 DJ is returning to his roots after he left the world of broadcasting to become a successful hypnotherapist and author.

In what will be a throwback moment, the 59-year-old will present a two-hour show on Boom Radio – a station aimed at baby boomers – on September 9.

In the broadcast, Paul will play some of his favourite music over the years, including tracks from the likes of Frank Sinatra, Carly Simon, Lionel Ritchie, and Four Tops.

The self-help guru will also share stories from his 40-year career as a DJ, author and hypnotherapist.

‘I’m very excited about doing this special show on Boom,’ he said.

‘My love of radio has never gone away. I’m can’t wait to share some of my favourite tracks with listeners and maybe even tell a few stories from my radio days along the way.’

Before selling over 12million books and becoming a household name for his television work, Paul started his life on the radio.

He won a competition as a teenager to present a ‘young DJ slot’ for London’s Capital Radio, and Paul went on to enjoy his Saturdays on Oxford Street as the resident Top Shot DJ.

Moving to Radio Caroline in 1983 aged 20, and on to Chiltern Radio and then Capital Radio, Paul eventually found his home at BBC Radio 1. In 1990 Paul left to pursue his hypnotherapy work.

Paul is a big wellness advocate, and previously told Metro.co.uk about his greatest hints and tips for a happy life.

‘Most people spend more time making a list for the supermarket than they do the next five years of their life but people who are goal setters, or at least know what it is they want, are far more likely to get it than those who don’t,’ he said.

‘Instead of “I want money”, ask “what would that give me?” Is it a feeling of security or accomplishment? That way, you realise why you’re doing things.’

Also offering a practical tip, he added: ‘Go a year into the future and imagine it has been one of the best years of your life.

‘What would have happened with regards to your health, physical and mental, your relationships, personal and professional, your career, your finances, your levels of happiness?

‘Then come back three months before that. What would have needed to happen? And then do that for the three months before that until you get back to this moment. Now your life has a direction for the next year.’
