First Rise and Fall contestant quits series after brutal challenge sees Grafters receive electric shocks

    • March 19, 2023

One contestant has already walked out of thrilling new reality series Rise and Fall, after the Grafter took part in a brutal challenge which saw the players receive electric shocks.

The Channel 4 programme, hosted by Greg James, sees 16 contestants divided into two groups, the powerful Rulers, and the powerless Grafters.

While the former live in a luxurious penthouse, and order the Grafters with their work duties, the latter live in basic conditions and have to complete tasks to increase the prize fund.

Tonight’s episode saw our first six rulers take their place: Rachel, Ramona, Cheryl, Rishika, Prince and Matt.

After settling into their penthouse, while the Grafters were offered prison-like beds and just soup and bread, the Rulers sent out their first orders: ‘Grafters, we are the rulers. Our prize fund currently stands at zero, which means you’re going to need to put in the work to build it up. Only  a ruler can win the prize fund.

‘So we’re going to need you to put in that work and everything you can to get that going. Work starts tomorrow, and everything that you need, food and uniforms have been provided. Good luck.’

The work in question ended up being working as electricians – but with a twist. The Grafters had to ‘fix a break in a powerline’ by holding up a section of the powerline above their heads and keep it connected for a certain length of time.

The circuit wasn’t allowed to be broken for more than five seconds, but that wasn’t all.

‘One more thing,’ Greg added: ‘The powerlines are live’.

While the total prize money available could have reached £15,000 after sore arms, plenty of jumps and squeals, and a row almost breaking out between the Rulers, those in charge called an end to the game after £6,000.

However, it grew to be too much for 45-year-old Ali.

The Essex-based entrepreneur called it quits after the first challenge, saying: ‘I feel like s**t. I want to go home. The lack of decent food, no hot water, it is freezing.

‘That’s what can break a man.’ He then stunned the players as he said is goodbye and said he was ‘going home’.

‘I can’t be a follower. I’m a leader, quite frankly, I don’t know any other way,’ he later said.

Rise and Fall continues on Monday at 10pm on Channel 4.
