Firefighters were called to a blaze in London, believed to have started after a ‘lithium battery bubbled’ inside a house.

Ten fire engines were called to the fire in Greenwich, west London, just after noon today.

It has been reported that the fire began after a lithium battery, used in vapes and often in e-scooters, ‘bubbled’ inside the house in Davern Close.

Fire crews used hose reels and positive pressure ventilation in order to extinguish the blaze that ripped through the terraced house.

The London Fire Brigade drone team used thermal imaging cameras to help fire commanders tackle the flames.

Large plumes of black, acrid smoke filled the air and numerous calls were made to the fire service.

A spokesperson from the London Fire Brigade (LFB), said crews from East Greenwich, Lewisham, Lee Green, Poplar, Plumstead, and nearby fire stations were called to the incident.

It was put out just before 4pm. It is not known if anyone was injured in the blaze.

LFB said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
