Football fans flooded Twitter during Sunday’s Women’s World Cup final to express concerns about commentator Robyn Cowen’s voice.

The Lionesses took on Spain in Australia on Sunday during the final.

Robyn headed up the BBC’s coverage of the match and had a noticeably croaky voice, prompting one person to say on Twitter: ‘If England score, you fear for Robyn Cowen’s voice.’

Another social media user echoed: ‘You fear for Robyn Cowen’s voice if England score early here, you really do.’

Someone else chimed in: ‘Someone give poor Robyn Cowen a Strepsil.’

‘Robyn Cowen has shouted and screamed so much over the last 4 weeks she’s actually lost her voice. Awful, if a little hilarious,’ said someone else.

Other comments included: ‘If England scores Robyn Cowen will definitely have no voice left!’ and, ‘I love Robyn Cowen but I can’t listen to the croaking it’s making me want to cough for her.’

Fans and famous faces alike made sure to rally around the Lionesses before they took on Spain on Sunday.

England manager Gareth Southgate announced he was supporting the team as he said: ‘Hi to you all out there in Australia. You’re doing a brilliant job so that’s the first thing and there is, of course, no advice because you’ve done more than us already.

‘You know what is needed to win so all that remains is to wish you the very best for the final and we hope you can bring that trophy back. Good luck everybody.’

Rio Ferdinand added: ‘This is a moment man, this is history in the making.

‘You girls are close. I’ve had every faith in you, man. So please, make me cry. Make me cry. Let’s go.’

Metro.co.uk has reached out to Robyn’s reps for comment.
