‘Failed by the state’ & ‘Trump Gaza plans’

Two stories dominate Thursday’s front pages: A report into the failings in the care of the Nottingham killer and the reaction to Donald Trump’s plans for the US to take over Gaza and to resettle Palestinians in nearby countries.

The front pages also leave room to report on Kemi Badenoch’s plans with migrants if the Conservative Party wins the next election. The papers report Badenoch’s move is an attempt to curb the rise of the Reform party.

The back pages lead on Newcastle’s 2-0 win over Arsenal last night to send them to the Carabao Cup final at Wembley.

    ‘Failed by the state’

‘Families of Nottingham victims want those who failed in the care of killer to be named,’ says the Express.

The Daily Express says “Failed!” as it reacts to the report into the failings in the care of the man who murdered three people in the street in Nottingham. The Express says the families of Ian Coates, Barnaby Webber and Grace O’Malley-Kumar are demanding those involved in the care of Valdo Calocane to be publicly named.

‘Failures and cover-ups on an epic level,’ reports the Metro.

The Metro says there were “failures and cover-ups on an epic level” saying “it’s shameful.” The paper picks up on comments by Emma Webber, the mother of Barnaby Webber, who says the staff who left Calocane free to kill “just didn’t do their jobs.”

‘Failed by the state,’ says the Mirror.

The Daily Mirror says “failed by the state” and carries pictures of the three victims as well as the three little girls killed by Axel Rudakubana in Southport. A review found he had been dropped from the terror watchlist “too early,” the paper says.

    ‘Trump Gaza plans’

‘Trump plans condemned by Arabs and Europeans,’ reports the FT.

The Financial Times reports Donald Trump’s comments about the US taking over Gaza have attracted attention. The paper says the comments have been condemned by the allies of the US from across the world. The paper says both Arabs and Europeans are “outraged” amid fears for the future of the West Bank.

‘Trump plans to turn Gaza into Riviera of the Middle East,’ reports the Daily Star.

The Daily Star picks up on Trump’s comments to turn Gaza into the “Riviera of the Middle East” and features a backdrop of flattened buildings in the Strip with the headline: “Wish you were here?”

‘UN boss warns against ethnic cleansing,’ highlights The Guardian.

The Guardian reports the US president’s plan has faced “global condemnation” as it says the head of the UN, António Guterres, has warned it is important to avoid an ethnic cleansing.

Despite Saudi Arabia and numerous other countries coming out against the plan, Trump told reporters “everybody loves it”, the paper says.

‘Trump’s plan puts UK on collision course with president,’ says the i.

The i says Trump’s “shock plan” puts the UK on a collision course with the US president.

‘Tories to kick out low-paid migrants’

‘Badenoch’s first major policy would see her combat the Reform Party,’ claims the Telegraph.

The Daily Telegraph leads on Kemi Badenoch’s first major policy which would see her combat the rise of the Reform Party. The paper says the proposal would mean legal migrants with low pay or no work could only apply for indefinite leave to remain after 10 years – double the current threshold.

‘Badenoch says she’ll ban migrants from becoming UK citizens,’ claims the Mail.

The Mail paraphrases Badenoch as saying “I’ll ban migrants who claim benefits from becoming UK citizens”. It says the Tory leader will “take the battle to Reform” with the dramatic announcement.
