Roberto Firmino looks set to leave Liverpool when his contract expires at the end of the season, but Fabinho hopes that situation will change and that the forward will stay at the club forever.

The 31-year-old has been at Anfield since 2015 and enjoyed a stellar career with the Reds, winning the Premier League and Champions League and racking up over 350 appearances for the club.

His influence has waned in recent times thanks to the arrivals of Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez and he feels it is time to move on at the end of his deal this summer.

Fabinho will be very sad to see his fellow Brazilian go and would rather see him stay at the club ‘forever’ after everything he has achieved in a Liverpool shirt.

‘Bobby is a very special guy,’ Fabinho told ESPN Brasil after Firmino scored in Liverpool’s 7-0 battering of Manchester United on Sunday. ‘It’s great to have him as a teammate. He’s a guy that everyone likes him.

‘It was really cool that he scored today, that he celebrated in that way. Everyone on the bench, on the field, celebrated with him, because he is a guy that everyone likes.

‘So he’s a guy who for me should stay at Liverpool forever, who was very important since my arrival. And I don’t want to talk too much about the future, let’s enjoy these last few months that we have of him here.

‘I don’t know if the situation can still change, but we joke with him a little. But let’s enjoy it while we have this player with us because he is a very special guy.’
