EU to tighten Iran sanctions after Israel attack

The EU will expand sanctions on Iranian producers of drones and missiles following Iran’s attack on Israel.

More than 300 missiles were launched from Iran, with 99% of them shot down or intercepted by Israel and its allies.

Iran launched its attack after an Israeli strike on its consulate building in Syria killed 13 people.

Israel denies it is responsible for the attack on the Iranian consulate.

“It’s very important to do everything to isolate Iran,” European Council President Charles Michel said.

The bloc already has sanctions in place against Iran, including for selling drones to Russia for use in its war against Ukraine.

The US has hinted it will impose its own new penalties in the coming days.
