Manchester City star Erling Haaland has described Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho as a ‘proper baller’ with the winger poised to seal his return to Borussia Dortmund.

Sancho’s miserable season at Old Trafford looks set to come to an end this week with the 23-year-old close to joining former side Dortmund on loan until the end of the season.

Erik ten Hag banished the player from his first-team squad in August with Sancho now closing in on a return to the Westfalenstadion where he developed into one of the most promising young players in European football.

Sancho spent four years at Dortmund before joining United in a £73million deal in 2021.

He spent one season playing alongside Haaland at the German giants, winning the German Cup together.

Sancho scored 16 goals and laid on 20 assists during that season, failing to replicate those numbers in three seasons as a United player.

Sancho has scored 12 and provided six assists since arriving at Old Trafford.

Haaland shared the update on Wednesday.

With Sancho’s return to Germany imminent, Haaland shared a picture of the two celebrating Dortmund’s 2021 German Cup success alongside the caption: ‘Proper baller that.’

The former Manchester City youngster has not played since August, left out of the squad that played Arsenal with Erik ten Hag feeling his efforts were not up to standard.

Sancho publicly challenged his manager and has refused to apologise for the outburst that has seen him banished from the senior side, also told to keep away from first-team facilities at Carrington.

United had hoped to offload Sancho on a permanent basis this month but a lack of interest has seen them relent on that stance, accepting a loan offer from Dortmund this week.

Dortmund will pay a modest loan fee for the player but United are also expected to keep paying a portion of his salary.

Reports on Wednesday have suggested Dortmund are only willing to pay one-third of his £300,000-a-week salary with United set to pay up for the rest.
