Eric Dier was delighted to make his Bayern Munich in a 1-0 win over Union Berlin on Wednesday night, but his performance in the post-match interviews has attracted as much attention as his display on the pitch.

The England international came on at half-time at the Allianz Arena, replacing Dayot Upamecano, and helping his side keep a clean sheet and pick up a big three points.

Raphael Guerreiro scored the only goal of the game as Thomas Tuchel’s side went back within four points of Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

Dier had media duties to take care of after the match and it appears that he has already adopted a local accent, just a matter of days after moving from Tottenham on loan.

In a move reminiscent of Steve McClaren as manager of FC Twente as he took on a Dutch accent and Joey Barton at Marseille when he became a little French, Dier has shown off a German twang.

‘Very proud moment for me to make my debut for this club, a very proud moment for me and my family,’ Dier told Sky Sports.

‘Obviously I really enjoyed it, playing here, I’m happy to have made my debut in this stadium, it’s even nicer. Hopefully I can continue to help the team.’

Barton, who produced his French accent back in 2012, commented on social media: ‘Work to do on the accent big man.’

Harry Kane was more supportive online, with the England captain posting: ‘Great to get back on track! Congrats Eric Dier on your debut.’

On being back alongside his old friend, the new arrival at Bayern said: ‘Obviously it’s a pleasure to play with him, I think the first time we played together was England Under-19s or 20s, so we played together a very long time.

‘It’s a pleasure to play with him, to work with him every day as well, I think we both share a similar style with the way that we work so it’s a pleasure to get to spend every day with him, watch him work and learn from him and work together. It happens that we’re back together here which no one could have imagined but I’m really happy.’

On the influence Kane had on Dier’s switch to Bavaria, the defender told ESPN: ‘Obviously people like to make this connection, but honestly Harry and I didn’t speak about it a lot. It was more when I realised that it was serious and it could happen then obviously we spoke more.

‘I was watching Bayern a lot because of him before that, but he would say the same, we didn’t really speak about it too much until I realised it was serious. I didn’t want to jinx anything, so we spoke about it in the days leading up to me travelling here and he’s been a great help in me settling in.

‘It’s very nice to have someone you know so well. He didn’t have that when he came so I’m lucky to have come later and have that person who can hold my hand.’
