Emmerdale star and all-round legend, Lisa Riley, has opened up about how she felt in the aftermath of the death of her mum, Cath.
Lisa, who plays Mandy Dingle in the ITV soap, lost her mum in 2021 after being diagnosed with cancer.
Recently, the actress shared a wonderful image of Cath on her Instagram and told her followers more about the emotions she went through after her mum’s death.
In support of the charity Sue Ryder, Lisa wrote:
‘Over two-thirds (69%) of people have been scared or embarrassed to talk about their emotions whilst grieving. But it is important to remember that all emotions are valid. It’s okay to feel angry, guilty, frustrated or resentful following a bereavement and you don’t need to downplay or hide your emotions.
‘When my mum Cath died, I felt a mix of emotions from anger to isolation, and very much alone……feeling this real sense of “why me?” and that’s ok, there’s no right or wrong way to grieve.
‘That is why I’m proud to be supporting @Suerydercharity #ToBeHonest campaign, which encourages people to open up and be honest with feelings associated with grief.’
The comments section of the post provided a supportive place for people to share their experiences and also praised Lisa for her honesty.
‘Love this post’, someone said. ‘I was the same when my mum died. It’s the worst thing you can ever go through’.
Another follower wrote: ’Lost my lovely mum six months ago, grief is a rollercoaster. I can never second guess what I’m going to wake up to, a day of solid tears, or an ok coping day, it’s just awful x’.
Over in Emmerdale, Lisa’s character is currently supporting one of her best friends after his attempt at ending his life.
Paddy (Dominic Brunt) reached crisis point a few weeks ago after months of depression and isolation, with Chas’ (Lucy Pargeter) affair reveal being the catalyst.
