Amelia is terrified about losing Dan (Picture: ITV)
Dan Spencer (Liam Fox) was the hot topic under discussion in David’s shop in Monday (August 7)’s Emmerdale. Rodney (Patrick Mower) and Eric (Chris Chittell) discussed the fact that Dan had punched someone, who later died. ‘It’s hardly going to be a slap on the wrist,’ Eric reasoned as they agreed Dan was looking at a custodial sentence.
Dan walked in on this conversation, but they weren’t talking about anything he didn’t already know. That one punch, when Dan saw red and lashed out at Lloyd (Matt Sutton) who’d been stalking Amelia (Daisy Campbell), has led to him facing a long time in prison after he pleaded guilty to GBH. The charge was later changed to manslaughter after Lloyd died, but Dan’s plea still stands and he’s awaiting sentencing.
Liam Fox told us about the moment Dan’s life changed forever. ’The particular scene where he actually goes and hits Lloyd, seconds before that he’s laughing and joking about cooking pork steaks with Cain (Jeff Hordley) and the next minute he’s punched a man and he’s down on the floor. I think that pretty much shows where Dan’s life has gone from in those seconds, to where his life is just constant worry.’

One of his major worries is about leaving Amelia and baby Esther while he’s in prison. He’s not convinced Amelia could cope without him and proposed that she should leave Emmerdale to live with her brother Sean.
Amelia didn’t want to do that, and came up with a plan of her own. They could go on the run.
‘She doesn’t want to be away from her dad. Her dad’s all she’s really got,’ Daisy Campbell explained. ‘She’s not had much family in the past few years because they’ve passed away or they’ve moved away. I feel like she just can’t be away from her dad and her dad is her support system. I think that’s why they’ve only got that option to go on the run.’

Daisy described Amelia’s thinking as ‘delusional’ in this moment.
‘It’s like this false reality,’ she said. ‘Amelia does get ahead of herself, she tends to do that quite a lot. When she gets an idea she sticks with it. But I do think in the back of her mind she is thinking is this going to work? She’s got to think about Esther, Noah (Jack Downham), anyone she’s ever been friends with and around. I think she can, and I think it’s only because she’s a bit delusional.’

In coming episodes father and daughter will enlist Cain Dingle’s help to get them out of the Dales and heading for a new life in Ireland.
But will Amelia’s scheme work? Liam Fox told us his character has major doubts.
‘He knows deep down it’s not a real answer. You’re going to get caught eventually. It’s not going to be forever. It’s a fantasy world, really, and he realises that.’
