Emmerdale spoilers: Tom devastated by an upsetting Christmas surprise

Tom King (James Chase) gets all excited in upcoming Emmerdale episodes at the prospect of the village’s annual Christmas Fair.

It’s not usually an occasion that provokes massive excitement, unless you’re a big fan of amateur carol singing and PC Swirling (Andy Moore) dressed up as Father Christmas.

But this year Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) is in charge, and she’s absolutely determined that this event will be one to go down in the history of the Dales. And she has special guests.

Since Tom returned to Emmerdale he’s been a bit of a mysterious figure.

One minute he’s being kind and caring, looking after wee animals (he is a vet after all) and being a thoughtful and caring neighbour.

He’s obviously besotted with Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper) and seems to genuinely love her, but their relationship hasn’t been without its problems. His jealousy over her friendship with Vinny (Bradley Johnson) and his violent reaction after his car was stolen were red flags that hinted at some unpleasantness.

We also saw another violent outburst when Tom lashed out at Belle when she wouldn’t accept his marriage proposal and she ended up falling and hurting her head.

He seemed mortified by what he’d done and ecstatic when Belle insisted that it hadn’t affected how she felt about him.

In upcoming episodes Tom announces that he has a plan to make Christmas a memorable one – but his plan ends up in failure. He’s downcast, but soon cheers up when he hears that Nicola has got some surprise guests lined up for the Christmas Fair.

He’s got high hopes that it could be his absolute favourite skating stars, Torvill and Dean. He’s a massive Torvill and Dean fan, apparently – which we certainly wouldn’t have guessed. And what could be more normal than Torvill and Dean at an Emmerdale village event?

As the big day approaches, he’s getting more and more excited – and Chas has an idea to make the day even more memorable. She suggests to Belle that it could also be a good day for her to propose.

But as Tom heads to the fair, the day he hoped for fails to materialise when Nicola’s special guests prove to be a massive disappointment.
