Emotions are running high (Picture: ITV)

Sam Dingle (James Hooton) and Lydia’s (Karen Blick) marriage is tested once again in upcoming Emmerdale episodes as the search for Craig’s (Ben Addis) killer begins.

In a week of episodes that breaks the usual format for the ITV soap, Lydia will invite most of the Dingle family to the Woolpack for a meeting.

There, she will explain that Craig has been found dead and believes she’s looking at the person responsible.

Lydia’s loved ones will then take it in turns to tell her where they were before Craig was killed. Flashback scenes will confirm that everybody has a story to tell – and they are all not telling the complete truth about what they’ve been up to.

First on Lydia’s list is Cain (Jeff Hordley) and Sam. With knowledge they had Craig tied up in a barn, it’s no surprise she is suspicious.

After listening to Cain and Sam, Lydia turns her attention to Belle (Eden Taylor-Draper), who reveals Tom (James Chase) proposed – but also hides a key piece of information from her family.

Elsewhere, Aaron (Danny Miller), Chas (Lucy Pargeter) and Charity (Emma Atkins) all step into the spotlight, and it’s revealed unlikely suspects Marlon (Mark Charnock) and Mandy (Lisa Riley) also have their secrets.

Despite everyone’s alibis being established, Lydia remains troubled that someone is being deceitful.

Unable to bear her upset, a guilt ridden Sam revels there’s more to his version of events.

As the truth is revealed, what does this mean for Lydia’s marriage?

Is it doomed to end if Sam is the killer?

Speaking about these upcoming instalments, James Hooton told us that the flashbacks scenes will begin new storylines for some iconic characters.

‘It’s not something we’ve done in Emmerdale before. I’m not privy to how all these story strands pan out and whether they all come to fruition beyond the telling of Craig’s death story, but I think it’s quite an innovative way of drawing an audience in to what is quite a harrowing storyline’, he said.

‘It’s amazing how it’s filmed and Gary Williams was amazing with us all and got us through quite a massive block of episodes mainly centred around the Dingles in the Woolpack environment, but what’s different about this I suppose is the flashbacks.

‘The spotlight is on various individuals throughout these episodes and it centres around the idea that everybody in the room, the 12 Dingles in the room, everyone’s concealing some kind of secret, which may or may not lead to Lydia discovering who has actually killed Craig.’
