Emily Blunt has said she is ‘appalled’ by the ‘insensitive’ language she used to describe a waitress in a recently resurfaced clip.
The Oppenheimer actress, 40, apologised for calling the restaurant worker ‘enormous’ during an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show in 2012.
Emily, who is married to The Office star John Krasinski, said her ‘jaw was on the floor’ after watching the clip, which went viral earlier this week.
Reflecting on the interview, the A Quiet Place actress said: ‘I just need to address this head-on as my jaw was on the floor watching this clip from 12-years ago.
‘I’m appalled that I would say something so insensitive, hurtful, and unrelated to whatever story I was trying to tell on a talk show.’
She continued in a statement to People magazine: ‘I’ve always considered myself someone who wouldn’t dream of upsetting anyone so whatever possessed me to say anything like this in that moment is unrecognisable to me or anything I stand for.
‘And yet it happened, and I said it and I’m so sorry for any hurt caused. I was absolutely old enough to know better.’
Emily made the remark while discussing filming sci-fi movie Looper, which also stars Bruce Willis and Joseph Levitt-Gordon, in a remote part of the US.
The Edge of Tomorrow star said the cast and crew dined out at chain restaurant Chili’s as there were no other options.

The mention of the eaterie prompted Jonathan, 62, to remark: ‘If you go to Chili’s you can see why so many of our American friends are enormous.”
Emily added: ‘Well the girl who was serving me was enormous.’
The Jungle Cruise actress’ apology comes after she announced she would be taking a break from Hollywood to spend more time with her children.

Her fans were left fearing she’d quit acting for good, prompting her to clarify to Deadline: ‘Honestly that story got so overblown.
‘I’m just taking a little downtime, not quitting Hollywood. I was just taking some months off to be with the kids.’
