There’s a huge shake-up coming on American Idol, with Katy Perry and Lionel Richie set to be replaced in upcoming episodes.
The pair are jetting across the pond to perform at King Charles III’s coronation concert, leading a star-studded lineup at the celebrations.
However, their brief exits have left two empty chairs beside remaining judge Luke Bryan, with Ed Sheeran and Alanis Morissette confirmed to be stepping in.
According to ABC, not only will the super-talented duo be judging the competition, the Ironic singer is also serving as mentor for the contestants, who will be belting out some of her biggest hits.
Both Alanis and Ed – who is currently embroiled in a court battle in New York – will be taking to the stage themselves for separate performances throughout their stint.
Katy and Lionel are both missing out on the episodes to fly over to the UK, where they will be joining Olly Murs, Take That and Andrea Bocelli to celebrate the King’s coronation.

Luke, who has served as a judge for the competition since 2018, will be holding the fort in the US, and teased the identities of their replacements in a previous chat with Entertainment Tonight.
‘It’s big time. It’s big time,’ he insisted. ‘The people that we have filling in, contestants have used their songs many, many times.
‘A lot more than mine!’

The concert will be held on May 7, on the grounds of Windsor Castle with 20,000 in attendance – and is set to be broadcast live on BBC for those who didn’t manage to get tickets.
Spilling the beans on her preparation, Katy shared her excitement over staying at actual Windsor Castle for the celebrations.
Keeping tight lipped over her setlist, and how much say the Royals had over her performance, the Firework musician said: ‘They said I was allowed to stay at Windsor Castle which I’m really excited for.
‘I might be posting a lot because I’m going to be in a castle, for real. This is wild.’

‘It was very regal. It was like a cursive I have never seen [before]… I loved it. It was beautiful,’ she told Extra of the invite.
‘I was so grateful to get the honor because I’m an ambassador to one of his foundations for the British Asian trust, which primarily focuses on ending child trafficking, which is a huge issue of our time that people don’t talk enough about, and it just aligned with all my values…
‘I’m going there as an ambassador and he asked me to sing, and it all aligned.’
