EastEnders and Coronation Street win big at the ceremony (Picture: BBC / ITV)
After a remarkable year, EastEnders has been crowned Best Soap at the British Soap Awards, picking up the coveted viewer-voted trophy.
The BBC One soap, which fought off competition from popular serial dramas including Emmerdale and Coronation Street to pick up the victory, has been nothing short of specular under the tenure of boss Chris Clenshaw, who has oversaw some truly incredible storylines over the past year.
EastEnders also picked up three other trophies, with Danielle Harold, who played Lola Pearce, winning Best Leading Performer and Ravi Gulati star Aaron Thiara bagging Best Villain.
Lillia Turner, meanwhile, who plays Lily Slater walked away with Best Young performer. 12-year-old Lily, as viewers know, has been at the centre of a huge storyline this year, which saw her discover that she’s pregnant.
Coronation Street, meanwhile, scooped a sensational six trophies, leading the way on the night.
The Best Single episode award went to the acid attack storyline, with Best Dramatic Performance going to Charlotte Jordan, who plays Daisy Midgeley. Maureen Lipman’s Evelyn Plummer scooped Best Comedy Performer.
