A driver who smashed through the glass façade of an Apple Store in Massachusetts was charged with murder.

A grand jury indicted Bradley Rein, 53, on more charges after the fatal incident in Hingham, Massachusetts on November 21, 2022 that left one person dead and 22 people injured.

Rein was initially charged with negligent homicide. He pleaded not guilty and was released on $100,000 bail.

The suspect now faces an additional charge of second-degree murder, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, and 22 charges of assault and battery for each person injured in the crash.

The single fatality was identified as Kevin Bradley, a 65-year-old construction worker from Wayne, New Jersey. He was pronounced dead at the scene when first responders arrived.

The other 22 victims suffered from ‘varying levels of trauma,’ according to Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz.

Rein told investigators that he was searching for an eyeglasses store when his foot got stuck on his car’s accelerator pedal. He allegedly tried to simultaneously break with his left foot, but he still lost control of the car.

The suspect said he had no medical issues that would have effected his driving, and a breathalyzer test showed he had no drugs or alcohol in his system.

Joan Fund, Rein’s attorney, said she was ‘astounded’ by the new charges. ‘My client has fully cooperated with the investigation and I look forward to answering all other questions about this case in court,’ she said.

Several of the injured victims immediately filed lawsuits against Rein, the property manager, and even Apple itself seeking damages due to negligence.

‘This catastrophe was 100% preventable,’ said Doug Sheff, an attorney representing two of the victims. Sheff said his clients suffered from severe orthopedic and brain injuries since the November crash.
