Dominic Solanke injury timeline confirmed by Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou
Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke is set for an extended spell on the sidelines in what marks the latest injury blow to Ange Postecoglou’s squad.
Solanke, who has scored seven goals in the Premier League this season, picked up a knee injury in training and subsequently missed Spurs’ 3-2 loss to Everton at the weekend.
The England international also played no part in Tottenham’s 3-2 win against Hoffenheim on Thursday.
And now, Postecoglou has confirmed that the 27-year-old is set to be missing for six weeks but will not require surgery on his knee.
‘All the information now is kind of we’re looking at around the six-week mark for him,’ Postecoglou said after his side’s Europa League win
‘No surgery, but maybe we can get him back a little bit earlier, we’ll just see how he progresses, but at this stage it’s only around six weeks.’
Solanke’s injury further exacerbates Tottenham’s injury problems, with ten senior first-team players now unavailable due to injury.
Richarlison started in Solanke’s absence on Thursday, but the Brazillian, himself, is only just back from a lengthy injury that has kept him out since early November.
Tottenham currently sit 15th in the league and have key fixtures coming up in the next few weeks, including their Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Liverpool at the start of February.
Despite having his squad stretched to the limit, Postecoglou acknowledged that the club may struggle to make any new signings before the end of the January transfer window.
Asked on Wednesday if the club’s transfer business could be done for the month, the Australian responded. ‘Yeah, potentially.
‘The club is working hard to try to get some help for the players, but as far as I know, there’s nothing imminent.
‘But things happen quickly in the last week of the window, so still hopeful.’
Tottenham face a three-day turnaround before they host Leicester City in the league on Sunday.
