Get you up to speed: Major rail line to London Euston hit with delays and cancellations lasting all day | News UK

Passengers are facing disruptions on the London Euston route due to two track defects detected near Tring and between Euston and Watford Junction. National Rail has implemented speed restrictions which are expected to lead to delays and cancellations for Avanti West Coast and London Northwestern Railway services throughout the day.

National Rail has implemented speed restrictions on the track between Berkhamsted and Cheddington due to a defect, impacting services toward Milton Keynes Central. The disruptions are expected to continue throughout the day, with passengers advised to check their journey plans and potential ticket alternatives.

National Rail has implemented a speed restriction due to two track defects affecting services to and from London Euston, and has warned that disruptions may continue until the end of the day. Passengers are advised to check with their operators for potential impacts on their journeys and may claim compensation for delays exceeding 15 minutes.

What remains unclear — It is not specified when the track issues at Euston are expected to be resolved.

Passengers face disruption on the London Euston route today after two separate track defects were spotted on the major route.

Commuters travelling to and from Euston station should brace for delays and cancellations today as two track defects wreak havoc on journeys.

National Rail warned of disruption on all Avanti West Coast and London Northwestern Railway trains to and from Euston due to a speed restriction put in place after the issues were discovered this morning.

A track issue was detected near Tring, and another one between Euston and Watford Junction.

National Rail said: ‘A speed restriction over a defective track between Berkhamsted and Cheddington means that trains have to run at a reduced speed on the line towards Milton Keynes Central. There is an additional track defect between London Euston and Watford Junction.

‘As a result, trains running between London Euston and Milton Keynes Central may be cancelled, delayed by up to 10 minutes or revised.

‘This is expected until the end of the day.’

One commuter from Watford said on social media: ‘LNRailway another day more cancellations, every train cancelled from Hemel to Euston what’s happening?’

WTX has contacted Network Rail for a comment.

What are the options for Avanti and London Northwestern Railway passengers?

Avanti passengers can use their ticket on one of the two Avanti West Coast services immediately before or after their booked train.

Those travelling on London Northwestern can use tickets at no extra cost on the Overground between Euston and Watford until midday.

Passengers caught in the disruption might be able to claim compensation or delay repay, which usually kicks in after more than 15-minute delays.

Delay repay is usually paid directly by the train company, and you can find a full list of UK operators here.
