The i says laughable it may be, but in the House of Commons, no MP may call any other MP a liar. Accusations of deliberate deceit are banned, no matter their merit, and they are punished by the Speaker.
Other prohibited insults include pipsqueak, rat, swine, blackguard, coward, git, guttersnipe, hooligan, stool pigeon, traitor and sanctimonious dwarf. That last one was muttered at Speaker John Bercow by health minister Simon Burns in 2010, necessitating an apology, despite general agreement across the House.
