    Mexico identified a record number of Covid-19 deaths in the past 24 hours

    CNN says more deaths were recorded by Mexican authorities on Wednesday than any other day since the pandemic began. 

    Health officials said 1,092 coronavirus-related deaths were identified in 24 hours — more than doubling the previous single-day record. The previous high of 501 deaths was announced last week.

    Ibuprofen tested as coronavirus treatment

    BBC News says scientists are running a trial to see if ibuprofen can help hospital patients who are sick with coronavirus. 

    The team from London’s Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospital and King’s College believe the drug, which is an anti-inflammatory as well as a painkiller, could treat breathing difficulties.

    The Guardian says until a vaccine or effective treatments become available, we might have to live with the coronavirus and its risks. Public health experts are clear that testing and contract tracing offer the best hope of managing these risks. But England seems ill-prepared to undertake the testing and tracing necessary to avoid a second peak.

    Coronavirus spike prompts Tokyo alert, but how useful is new alarm?

    Japan Times says Tokyo’s Gov triggered the Tokyo Alert system for the first time Tuesday night following an uptick in new coronavirus patients, but some experts have expressed doubt over the effectiveness of the new warning mechanism. 

    Tokyo Alert was introduced more than two weeks ago as part of the city’s plan to gradually reopen society while preventing a second-wave of infections.

    Older Bollywood actors barred from work as virus protection

    Arab News says a senior citizen clause in a state government notice, barring all Bollywood actors and employees aged 65 and over from working during and after the coronavirus lockdown, has shocked the Indian Film Industry (IFI). 

    “Signed declarations should capture their name, age, contact details, blood group, in case of any ailments like diabetes, hypertension, cardiac issues. Etc. Any cast/crew members above the age of 65 years will not be allowed at the site,” read the order issued by the Maharashtra government.

    France records 81 new deaths as the number of ICU cases continue to drop

    France24 says France’s coronavirus death toll rose by 81 on Wednesday, or 0.3 per cent, to reach 29,021, which is the fifth-highest death toll in the world. 

    The rate of increase has decreased compared to Tuesday, when fatalities were up 0.4 per cent and the number of people hospitalised for Covid-19 has continued its long-running decline, the health ministry said in a statement.
