Covid cases jump by 16,000 as ministers urge public to get their jabs
The i says ministers urged the public to take up the vaccine as official figures showed the number of new Covid-19 cases jumped by more than 16,000 on Wednesday 23 June, the highest daily number of infections since early February.
Government data showed that 16,132 fresh cases were recorded across the UK, fuelled by the ongoing spread of the Delta variant.
