It’s been a long time since we saw Fiz Stape (Jennie McAlpine) on Coronation Street, as the character has been away from Weatherfield and working in Norfolk since May last year.
The storyline was devised to cover Jennie McAlpine’s absence from the show on maternity leave. Jennie and her husband Chris Farr welcomed their third child, baby Doris, in August, with the actress revealing that she loved the Corrie connections associated with her children’s names.
‘Doris is a family name and I love that it goes with Albert and Hilda’ she said. ‘They’re also all very “Corrie.”’
Since Fiz’s departure we’ve seen her a couple of times as Tyrone (Alan Halsall) has talked to her on video chats. Meanwhile he’s been coming to terms with having a very different woman in his life – his mum Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney).

Recovering drug addict Cassie has proved to be a chaotic addition to the Dobbs household as she tried to settle in to life on the Street. Not having any experience as a mother herself as she didn’t bring Tyrone up, her grandparenting skills have been a bit lacking.

And this is a huge cause for concern for Tyrone in upcoming episodes when he gets news from his wife. As if Norfolk wasn’t far away enough, she’s got the opportunity to attend a work-related course in Italy and she invites Tyrone to come with her.
As much as he’d love to spend time with the wife he hasn’t seen very much in a lovely location, Tyrone is torn.

Going to Italy would mean leaving daughters Hope Stape (Isabella Flanagan) and Ruby Dobbs (Billie Naylor) in the care of their gran, Cassie.
Obviously Tyrone has massive reservations about doing that, and it seems he’s right to be concerned when the very next day Cassie decides to bond with Ruby by giving her nail extensions and letting her have crisps for breakfast.
