Unsettling events and heated passions on the Street (Picture: ITV)

Things are heating up in a different way in next week’s Coronation Street after the builder’s yard fire – as temperatures are rising between Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) and Tommy Orpington (Matt Milburn).

But that doesn’t mean that the events from the inferno are forgotten, with Michael Bailey (Ryan Russell) targeting his dad Ed (Trevor Michael Georges) with his ire and suspicions.

And when the police get involved, is Ed set to face consequences for something he may not even be guilty of.

Two people who are far more bang to rights are bored housewife Tracy and dashing decorator Tommy.

While Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) is overcome with joy to be in the presence of his footballing hero, little does he know that he is getting to grips with Tracy.

    This can only end badly!

    Monday January 29

At No.3, Craig arrives to take Ed in for questioning. When Michael asks Ed if he started the fire himself, he vehemently denies it but is Michael convinced?

Ed admits to DS Swain that he knocked over some white spirit by accident but he certainly didn’t start the fire.

When Ed and Dee-Dee return home, Michael accuses Ed of burning down the yard so he could claim the insurance. Ed is devastated by his son’s hatred for him.

Steve is torn between spending time with Tommy Orpington and his daughter when Emma phones and invites him to spend the week in France.

As Steve leaves for France in his taxi, he watches with envy as Tommy pulls up in his van outside No.1. Kevin, Tim and Kirk head over and fawn over Tommy hoping to drag him into the pub but Tracy sends them packing.

    It’s clear there’s a spark between them.

Simon wakes up with a hangover and realises that he spilt his beer over Nick’s paperwork and quickly hides the evidence.

As Nick searches for his papers, Simon makes out he hasn’t seen them and offers to print them off for him.

Simon calls in the bistro with the newly printed paperwork, Nick thanks him and urges Leanne to try and persuade Carla to give Simon his job back.

Leanne appeals to Carla to give Simon another chance, pointing out how Peter’s departure has left a big hole in his life and he needs direction.

Daniel finds Bethany engrossed in writing an article in the café but when he enquires what it’s about, Bethany’s evasive.

Bethany calls her publisher, but she’s disappointed when they make it clear they’re not interested in her article. In the Rovers, a dejected Moses tells Todd that he’s moving to London to find another job.

At No.1, Tracy gives Tommy a ticking off over his timekeeping but when he compliments her on her outfit, Tracy is secretly thrilled.

In the flower shop, Toyah enthuses about Tommy Orpington and how sexy he looks in his overalls, and Mary gets an idea.

Mary suggests to Tracy that she should do some matchmaking as it’s clear Toyah fancies Tommy.

Tracy has other plans as she warns Toyah off claiming that Tommy’s a terrible womaniser and not to be trusted. Back at No.1, Tommy admits he fancies Tracy. Does Tracy feel the same?

When Daniel reminds Bethany it’s her turn to treat him to tea, she makes out she can’t as she’s working to a deadline.

Bethany checks her bank balance and looks at her overdraft with concern, but she quickly covers in front of Sarah.

When Bethany meets with Suki from the Gazette hoping for work, Suki advises her to try Chit-Chat Magazine as they may be looking for someone.

At No.3, Michael confirms that he’s spoken to James and told him all about the gambling debts and fire.
