Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) is facing an uncertain future in Coronation Street after an attempt at impressing the Newton family ended terribly.

The beloved character recently accepted that she needed to make some changes in the boozer due to financial problems.

She also knew that if a brewery agreed to buy the pub, it would decrease the chances of any dramatic alterations happening, which would keep the locals happy at the same time.

With that in mind, Jenny and Daisy (Charlotte Jordan) hosted an event tonight (August 7) for Philip and Henry Newton (George Banks), who are from the brewery firm Newton and Ridley.

As people began to leave, Henry gently broke the news to Jenny that they won’t be buying the pub, and handed her the contact details of a developer.

With the pub closed, Jenny was sitting on her own contemplating what lies ahead.

Feeling as though she had no choice, Jenny phoned the developer and left a voicemail, asking for them to get in contact.

She got up, looked at the place she’s called home for so long, emotionally apologised as she glanced at the picture of Betty and switched the lights off.

So, what now for the Rovers Return?

    Can it be saved?

Sadly, things got off to a bad start as Glenda (Jodie Prenger) revealed that she wouldn’t be able to sing as she has a poorly throat.

Glenda told Jenny and Daisy not to worry as she had found a replacement called Glyn Young – but he turned out to be an old man with hearing aids, which didn’t increase hope.

Fortunately, Glyn turned out to be a great success. The pub was packed and everybody loved singing along to the classics that Glyn was belting out. Jenny and Daisy were convinced that the evening would end positively, so what else could go wrong?

    Turns out, quite a lot.

In the back room, Glenda ranted to Glyn about Philip. Glenda said that she was extremely uncomfortable with Philip’s pervy behaviour – but she failed to realise the microphone on the table was still on, meaning her words were blasting out through the speakers!

As if that wasn’t enough, Glyn then fell unwell and had to be taken to hospital in an ambulance.
