There’s an emergency in the cafe in Coronation Street soon as Roy Cropper (David Neilson) falls unwell, prompting best friend Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) to step in and attempt to save the day.
Evelyn and Roy’s friendship has developed a lot this year. A few months ago, before Roy had an operation, he gave Evelyn a stack of letters addressed to his close friends and family.
He told her to hand the letters out only if something went wrong in the operation but, with Evelyn being Evelyn, the temptation to open her letter became too great.
She held it over a steaming kettle, opened the envelope and was touched to read Roy’s words, which detailed how much Evelyn means to him.

A few days ago, Roy was on hand to support Evelyn when she confronted a man who owns an illegal puppy farm.
‘All the people who care about her are trying to stop her from following him because he threatens Evelyn twice and he is pretty dangerous and thuggish’, Maureen Lipman told us.

‘The actor who plays him is very good. We have a couple of scenes where we had a fight arranger standing by. Evelyn’s obviously scared to her boots but she’s not admitting that. But when he threatens to hurt Tyrone if she continues it is a real dilemma as she is so fond of Tyrone. She realises she has to take a step back to protect her family.’
With Christmas just days away, upcoming episodes will see Evelyn suggest to Tyrone (Alan Halsall) that he takes the girls to Norfolk to see Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) while she spends Christmas with Roy.

Realising that leaves Cassie (Claire Sweeney) on her own, Evelyn reluctantly invites her to join them as well.
Later, in the cafe, Roy suffers a spasm in his back.
