Chelsea star Cole Palmer will miss England’s European Championship qualifier against Ukraine after being ruled out through injury.
The former Manchester City starlet picked up a knock in the first half of a 9-1 win over Serbia and appeared to come out after the break with his right thigh bandaged.
He lasted just six minutes into the second-half and was replaced by Tino Livramento, leaving Chelsea fans and Mauricio Pochettino sweating ahead of the visit of Arsenal after the international break on Saturday 21 October.
England Under-21 boss Carsley provided an update on Sunday afternoon. While not overly concerned by the knock, the former Everton midfielder said no risks would be taken with such a huge game for his club looming large next weekend.
‘I think Cole would be fine, but we don’t take any chances with any of the players,’ said Carsley.
‘If there is a slight doubt that they’re going to miss a game at the weekend, we get them back to the clubs as quickly as we can.
‘We could’ve kept Cole here another day and see how it was, but we didn’t think it was right. Everyone else is fine, a few colds and sniffles.’

Elsewhere at Chelsea this week, Armando Broja left the Albania squad early to return to Cobham ahead of schedule.
The 22-year-old suffered a knee ligament injury during a mid-season friendly against Aston Villa last December.
Chelsea have meticulously managed his return to the side with the striker called into the Albania squad ahead of the European Championship qualifiers against Czechia and friendly with Bulgaria.
Broja was left out of the squad that won 3-0 on Thursday night and ahead of Tuesday’s meeting with Albania, has returned to London.
The club’s other striker Nicolas Jackson has also returned from international duty ahead of schedule. The summer signing from Villarreal has undergone a minor wrist surgery having been spotted wearing a split in those wins over Fulham and Burnley.
He was included in the Senegal squad for games against Cameroon and South Sudan but withdrew this week.
