The start of the new week will also be marked by cold currents arriving from Northern Europe which will continue to cause rain and snowfall even at low altitudes. A deep depression, driven by polar currents, will rapidly cross central-northern Europe, to then plunge into the Mediterranean basin directly from the Rhone Gate: our country will therefore be hit by a real frozen lake, which will affect the weather for many days.
Frost and snow at low altitude
Antonio Sanò, founder of the website www.iLMeteo.it, explains that the entry of cold currents onto our seas will favor the formation of a cyclone destined to cause heavy rain and thunderstorms starting today and until Tuesday, particularly in the Center and South and on the two Major Islands. Heavy snowfalls will be possible in the Apennines starting from 1200/1400 meters above sea level. The North will be affected only marginally; however, the risk of snowfall down to very low altitudes (400/500 metres) cannot be ruled out a priori, especially in the Dolomites, western Piedmont and Emilia Romagna. Subsequently, after a short break around the middle of the week, a new cyclonic vortex will appear between Thursday 12th and Friday 13th, bringing a clear worsening of the weather across much of the Centre-South.
Particularly intense phenomena will focus on Sardinia, Sicily and Calabria, where heavy rains and persistent showers will be possible. In contrast, the North will benefit from drier conditions, with ample clearing and slightly milder temperatures during the day, but still very cold at night.
In detail
Monday 9. In the North: rain and snow on the hills in Emilia Romagna and Piedmont. In the Centre: unstable on the Tyrrhenian coasts and in Sardinia. In the South: bad weather on the Tyrrhenian Calabria.
Tuesday 10. In the North: scattered clouds, scattered rain; snowfall in the Alps. In the Center: showers in Tuscany and Marche. In the South: scattered rainfall.
Wednesday 11. In the North: scattered clouds on the plains, sunny in the Alps. In the Centre: rain alternating with sunny spells. In the South: rains in Campania and Tyrrhenian Calabria. Trend: short anticyclonic pause, then new cyclone in the Centre-South.
