Financial Times – Cleverly plans tougher wage and visa rules in bid to get grip on immigration 

The Financial Times leads with the government’s latest migration plan, reporting that ministers want to reduce numbers coming into the country by 300,000 a year.

Home Secretary James Cleverly’s “bid to get a grip on immigration” by making it harder for employers to hire overseas staff by raising the pay threshold for skilled workers. 

They will need to earn at least £38,700 to get a visa, up from £26,200. Careworkers will also be barred from bringing in dependants from next April.
