Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky divided fans after they posted a picture of the latter pushing their son’s face into his birthday cake.
The picture sees Chris, 39, watch on with his hands on his hips and a smile as his wife Elsa, 46, with the help of daughter India, playfully pushed their son’s head into a chocolate cake.
The family appeared to be laughing and smiling in what looked to be a light-hearted atmosphere for their twin sons, Tristan and Sasha’s, birthday celebrations.
Shoving the birthday celebrant’s face into their cake after taking a bite is called ‘la mordida’ and is a Mexican tradition usually carried out by a parent.
Taking a bite of the cake without any utensils is supposed to be good luck.
Alongside the picture of the scene, the Thor actor wrote: ‘Happy 9th birthday to my two little men! Only one way to eat cake in this house and that’s to have mum slam your head into it face first!!

“Hey mum I don’t like chocolate cake I prefer vanilla” “oh really son, what about now”?’
But some people didn’t share Chris’ attitude that this tradition is simply a bit of fun and games.
‘Why people smash their kids face in the cake is above my understanding but whatever,’ one person wrote. [sic]
Another replied: ‘Agreed. I think it’s ridiculous.’
‘It’s so violent,’ chimed in a third, while others disagreed, as one responded: ‘Because it’s funny and a family tradition and it give kids a memory to laugh at and then the look forward to it happening to their siblings and they share the joy. Just a bit of basic humour….. they look like they are having a good time together.’
A second person agreed as they said: ‘It’s a tradition. Let people be happy 🙄’.
‘Violent? It’s a bit of play!’ another person said, ‘Those kids are gonna grow up able to take a joke not be some little fairy who thinks having their head dipped in frosting is violent’.

But some people weren’t so convinced: ‘Does anyone here want cake all over their face? Didn’t think so. Why would your kid? And it’s so wasteful. So you’re just going to throw a perfectly good cake away after the stupid not funny prank?’
Others were simply worried about the cake, as one concerned individual asked: ‘Please tell me you didn’t waste a whole cake? Lol.’
